America Jane "Merky" VanMeter, age 85, of Sharon, TN, formerly of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (January 6, 2018) in Martin, TN.

She was born on February 25, 1932 in Perry County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Joe and Gipsy Farris Carroll.

She was a member of the Anneta United Baptist Church. In addition to being a homemaker who enjoyed quilting and cooking, she operated a food truck called America's Snacks out of her front yard in Millwood, Kentucky and also worked for many years at Allen's Lake at the concession stand as well as taking tickets for the Drive-In movies.

She is survived by three sons, Clyde VanMeter (Martha) of Sharon, TN, Rex VanMeter (Janat) of Indiana, Johnny VanMeter (Mary) of Elizabethtown, KY; a daughter, Pauline Poole (Tom) of Martin, TN; six grandchildren, Daniel VanMeter, Matt VanMeter (Ashley), Mark Romans, Jarrod Romans (Priscilla), Josh Pope (Sara) and Carrie VanMeter; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester "Bud" VanMeter; a granddaughter, Stacie Lynn VanMeter; three infant sisters, Hannah, Reanae and Millie Carroll, two sisters, Bonita Decker and Louise Stinnett; and six brothers, Clyde, Herbert, Albert, Jesse, Gene and Henry Carroll.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (January 10, 2018) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Joe Brooks will be officiating. Burial will be in the Vol Layman Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
