Obituary

Anthony "Tony" Joseph Allgeier Jr
January 8, 1945-September 12, 2022

Tony Allgeier, 77, died on Monday, September 12 at his home in McDaniels, Kentucky. He was born in Virginia and grew up in the Camp Taylor neighborhood of Louisville, living much of his adult life in Floyds Knobs, Indiana before spending his golden years at Rough River Lake, where he was unofficially known as the "Mayor of Rainbow Gardens."

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend of 38 years, Rosa Hundley Allgeier; and his parents, Anthony "Bud" Joseph Allgeier Sr and Catherine Rose (French) Allgeier.

Tony is survived by his sons, Anthony "T.J." Joseph Allgeier III and David (Jenny Morse) Allgeier; grandchildren, Buster Anthony Morse, Rosa Mae Morse and Anthony Joseph Allgeier IV; and his sister, Doris Hartlage.

An animal lover and outdoor enthusiast, Tony worked for several decades as an installer for AT&T. In his retirement he served on the board of directors for the McDaniels Fire Department and helped his Rainbow Gardens neighbors whenever possible.

To those who loved him, he was known affectionately as Tony, Gator, Poppa, or PopPop. Kindhearted throughout his life, he leaves behind a legacy of genuineness, sincerity, honesty, joviality, and a love for peace. Our hearts are broken. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all of us.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 17, 6:00-8:00 pm CDT at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield, Kentucky. Memorial Service will be Sunday, September 18, 2:00 pm CDT, also at Dermitt Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions made to the Kentucky Humane Society.
