Obituary

Arvil Lee Lucas, age 84, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (February 3, 2018) in Leitchfield.

He was born on August 3, 1933 in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Roy Leslie and Elsie Givans Lucas.

Arvil was a charter member of the New Harvest Baptist Church. He served as Deacon, Sunday School Director, and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a leader not always in name or spotlight, but by action and deed.

One of his favorite bible verses was 2 Chronicles 7:14 – If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Arvil was a Korean veteran serving in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. While a barber by trade for 40 years in Caneyville, KY; his one-chair shop was a community gathering place where he touched the lives of many people. Arvil loved spending time with family and friends, especially with his beloved grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and gardening, both of which gave him the opportunity to share and give back to others. (The gardening more than the fishing).

Arvil is survived by his wife of 63 years, Levia Jane Smith Lucas. They were married January 1, 1955. Arvil and Jane were constant companions and helpmates throughout their years together. He is also survived by 3 sons, Timothy Alan Lucas, wife, Kimberly, and their daughter, Carla Louise Lucas; Barry Neal Lucas, wife, Rebecca, and their children, Noah Logan, Caleb Bratcher, and Abigail Lee Lucas; Michael Keith Lucas, wife, Nancye, and their children, Olivia Jaye, Elizabeth Brooke, and Eli Bratton Lucas. He is also survived by his special grandkids, Tyler, Allison, and Jenna Cantway.

Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Marcella Lucas, Mary Sturgeon, Dorothy Carter, Mattie Smith; nieces and nephews, Rebecca Coleman Clampitt, Diane Carter, Joyce Carter Duffy, Michelle Lucas Shaw, Denise Lucas Jinkerson, and Leslie Lucas Houchins. Arvil is also survived by an extended family of special friends.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dorothy Mae Lucas, two brothers, Roy Leslie Lucas, Jr. and Bobby Eschol Lucas.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (February 7, 2018) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Bob Sutton and Bro. Doug King will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. noon to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
