Athel "Sambo" Decker, 89, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (April 17, 2012) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, Kentucky.

He was born on May 18, 1922, in Grayson County, Kentucky, the son of the late Tom Grant and Alma Kidwell Decker. He was a welder and a farmer, and was a member of McGrew Memorial General Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son, Randall (Karen) Decker of Clarkson, KY; four daughters, Carolyn "Tina" (Daniel) Hall of Crestwood, KY, Barbara (Kenneth) Meffert of Georgetown, IN; Tami Lee (Wayne) Cross of Campbellsburg, KY and Dee Dee (Dennis) Carrier of Campbellsville, KY: a brother, Willard Ray (Judy) Decker of Lebanon Junction, KY; his former wife, Pauline, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn, a brother, 8 sisters and a great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday (April 20, 2012) at McGrew Memorial General Baptist Church with Bro. Charlie Smith and Bro. Denver Wood officiating. Burial will be in the McGrew Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday (April 19, 2012) and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services at McGrew General Baptist Church.
