Obituary

Ben “Bimbo” Sanders, 67, of Anneta, Kentucky, passed away at his home on (February 24, 2026.)

He was born on June 12th, 1958 to the late Willie Sanders and Lou (Saltsman) Sanders.

He was known for speaking his mind plainly and honestly, never one to sugarcoat his thoughts. You always knew where you stood with him, and that kind of authenticity is a rare gift. Beneath that tough exterior was a man who cared deeply for his family, his friends, and the simple joys that made life meaningful.

He lived life on his own terms, with stubborn determination, unmistakable humor, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a lifelong love for demolition derbies, truck and tractor pulls, rarely missing a chance for a social atmosphere. Those moments—surrounded by noise, grit, and good company—were some of his happiest. Around Anneta, he was affectionately known as the “Mayor.” It wasn’t an official title, but to those who knew him, it fit perfectly. He always seemed to know what was going on, who was who, and he never met a stranger. If you were looking for him, chances are you didn’t have to look far—you could usually find him holding court at Ralph’s Market, visiting with friends, sharing stories, and offering his signature, unfiltered commentary.

Some of his most treasured moments, however, were the quiet ones spent at home in the garden and on the farm with his great-nieces and great-nephews. He loved showing them how things grew, sharing stories while tending the soil, and enjoying the simple pleasure of being together outdoors with the kids and the cows. Those times reflected a softer side of him—compassionate, proud, and happiest when surrounded by family.

He will be remembered for his honesty, his passion for the things he loved, and the many laughs, lessons, and memories he leaves behind. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will live on in every good Ford engine rolling through Anneta, every straight-talking conversation, and every moment that calls for a little extra grit. He was loved. He will be missed. And he will never be forgotten.

He is survived by his four siblings, James Sanders (Lily Mae Sanders), Audrey Logsdon (Mick Logsdon), Aubrey Sanders (Donna Sanders), and Barbara Decker (Timmie Decker). He had several nieces and nephews and greatly enjoyed spending time with his nearby great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brother Randall Sanders (Shirley Sanders) and sister Gerlene Cameron.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (February 28, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Jerry Decker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Saltsman Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
