Bennie Louis Cummings, age 86 and a half, of Caneyville, KY passed away Thursday, (April 2, 2026) at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 10, 1939, in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Johnnie and Ulva Wilson Cummings.
He married the love of his life, Beulah Mae, on March 25,1962. Together, they built a life rooted in love and a deep devotion to the Lord. God was always first in his life. He faithfully read his Bible, especially finding comfort in the 23rd Psalm, which he read daily.
He was a retired farmer who had a love of cows and mowing. For over 70 years, he faithfully served as the caretaker of Layman Memorial Cemetery. Above all, he loved his family. His home was a place of warmth and welcome, always open to anyone in need of a visit, a place to rest, or somewhere to stay. He was of the Baptist faith and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Pattie Lindsey, Marilyn Embry and Judy Cummings; seven grandchildren, Josh Lindsey (Alisha), Tabitha Alvey, Jordan Ray (Maribel), Mason Ray (Gabrielle), Darrian Cockriel (Tyler), Lacyn Willis and Seth Cummings; eighteen great-grandchildren, Mallory, Kaedance, Callie, Alex, Camden, Khali, Reagan, Aven, Hadlee, Harper, Abram, Brantley, Arianna, Khamzi, Bennett, Max, Bennie and Wendell. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Mae Cummings of 46 years; four brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, (April 12, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Curtis Decker will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
