Bette Mae Carter, age 80, passed away April 15, 2010 at her home in Leitchfield on the 60th anniversary of her marriage to husband, Gene.
She was born on May 1, 1929, in Cardin OK, the daughter of the late Delbert and Emza Burris. She made Leitchfield her home for the past 58 years. A member of the First Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School for 32 years and was involved in missions. In the 1970s she taught handicapped children in Grayson Co. She retired from Twin Lakes Hospital after 10 years as a dietary aide.
She is survived by a son, Chris Carter (Tracey) of Leitchfield, a daughter, Vonda Sharp (Doug) of Glendale, KY, four granddaughters, Holly Sharp Kruer (Doug) of New Albany, IN, Heidi Sharp, USAF, Ogden, UT, Hannah Sharp of Glendale and Shalee Carter of Leitchfield, one sister, Katherine Norris of Indianapolis, IN. Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Samuel Eugene Carter and her parents, Delbert and Emza Burris of Indianapolis, IN.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday (April 19, 2010) at the Leitchfield First Baptist Church. Rev. George Smith, Dr. Jerry Adamson and Mr. Kenneth Ray will be officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is Sunday, April 18, at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday.
