Billy Dewayne
Clopton
Jul 13, 1971 — Jul 4, 2026
Billy Dewayne “Wayne” Clopton, age 54, passed away peacefully at his home on July 04, 2026; a day he always considered his favorite holiday.
Billy was born on July 13, 1971, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Billy and Margaret Clopton. He was raised by his grandparents, Leonard and Mollie Davis, who played a profound role in shaping the man he became. They raised him in the church, instilled in him a love of fishing, hunting, and gardening, and nurtured his appreciation for music. Mollie purchased his first guitar, and with natural talent and determination, Billy became a self-taught master of the instrument. What began as a simple gift grew into a lifelong passion and one of the defining parts of his life. His love of music led him to countless friendships, bands, and connections with fellow musicians and artists, many of whom remained close friends throughout the years.
Billy met the love of his life, Lori, whom he affectionately called “Jeano,” and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, who were the center of his world, Chelsey Clopton and Chayla Clopton. Billy was also the father of Chasity Clopton from a previous relationship. In recent years, he was overjoyed and deeply relieved that he and Chasity were able to reconnect and mend their relationship, a blessing that meant the world to him.
Nothing brought Billy more joy than his grandson, Ronin. He was truly the apple of his Peppaw’s eye, the sunshine in his day, and forever “Peppaw’s little man.” Billy cherished every moment he spent with him and took immense pride in his grandson.
Following the deaths of his beloved grandparents, Billy and Lori faithfully continued caring for their daughter, Debbie. Billy shared a special bond with Debbie and spoiled her every way. Without question, he honored the promise he made to his grandparents to ensure Debbie's well-being and happiness until his very last day.
Billy also shared an extraordinary bond with his sister, Jeanna Carnes. Their relationship was filled with endless banter, laughter, and unwavering love. No matter the topic, they could always end a conversation the same way—with an “I love you.”
Wayne will be remembered for his intelligence, his gift of conversation, his mastery of the guitar, and the tender heart he often hid beneath a rough exterior. He was a loyal friend, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring brother, and steadfast caretaker.
He survives by his wife, Lori Clopton; his daughters, Chelsey Clopton, Chayla Clopton, and Chasity Clopton; his grandson, Ronin; his sister, Jeanna Carnes; and several nieces and nephews. Through their memories and stories, they will ensure that Ronin grows up knowing the remarkable man his Peppaw was—and maybe hearing a few surprise stories along the way.
Wayne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Mollie Davis; his parents, Billy and Margaret Clopton; his brother, David Clopton; and his sister, Lenetta Clopton.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation has been chosen. A celebration of Billy’s life will be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you simply hug your loved ones a little tighter, tell them you love them, read a chosen bible passage, and turn up a good Lynyrd Skynyrd song in Billy’s honor.
“The song is ended, but the melody lingers on” ….Irving Berlin
