Campbell Olis Basham, 89, of Leitchfield formerly of Big Reedy died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at his home with his family at his side. Olis was born, November 18, 1918 in Butler County. He was the son of James Lester Basham, Sr. and Elsie Raymer Basham. He and his twin, Robert Otis were the oldest children. He had a sister, Gladys Owen, a brother James Lester Basham Jr. and an infant brother who proceeded him in death. He met and married Nova Woosley on July 18, 1947. During their 54 years of marriage, they enjoyed good times too numerous to count. During his career in the Army Air Corp/United States Air Force they traveled all over the world. While in England, they were blessed with a son, Morris. After retiring, November 30, 1964 from the United States Air Force, the family called Big Reedy home until March 2007 when his health began to fail. Olis and Nova spend many hours in church service and volunteering in church camps during their years as members of the Mt. Pleasant Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved his work in the church and teaching Sunday School, he continued to pray and read his Bible until weeks before his death. Even though he and Nova only had one biological son, they helped raise numerous children in their neighborhood. They also loved gardening, canning and sharing with their neighbors. Olis also retired from Sears as an appliance repairman. After his second retirement, he enjoyed doing repairs for his church, neighbors and family. He was an active member of the Reedyville Lodge No.438, F. & A.M. For Olis, Nova's passing in November 2001 was his greatest loss.
He is survived by his twin brother, Robert Otis, his son Morris and wife Gail Houchin, his grandson, Jeremy Stanton and companion Jennifer and sons, Charlie, Dominique. Damion and Shandon, three step grandchildren, Andy Bratcher (Jenna) Tresia Lee (Seth), Ashley Bratcher-Coleman (Russell) and five step great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
