Carl Hayes, age 97, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (July 21, 2023) at his residence.

He was born on October 16, 1925 in Edmonson Co., KY, the son of the late Oliver and Eva Jane Duvall Hayes.

He was a World War Two Navy Veteran and a farmer who enjoyed knife trading, whittling, riding horses and sightseeing.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Allene Mudd Hayes, his daughter, Jaynelle Kelley (James) of Leitchfield, two grandchildren, Dewayne Kelley (Sarah Elizabeth) and Tammy Kennetha Beville (Jacob), five great-grandchildren, one brother, Harlin Hayes of Big Clifty, KY, one sister, Edna McClure of Leitchfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Stoy, Herman and Charlie Hayes, three sisters, Gladys Wilkins, Anna Pearl and Nancy Jane Hayes.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, (July 27, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial with military honors will be in the Hayes-Kelley Cemetery in Leitchfield. Bro. Vester Decker will be officiating.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
