Obituary

Carol Rose Newton, age 76, of Louisville, KY, passed away Friday, (May 17, 2013) at the Hurstbourne Care Center in Louisville, KY.

She was born on February 3, 1937 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Alma Oller Young.

Carol was a retired communications worker for Bell South Telephone Company. She enjoyed volunteering at the Jefferson County Adult Literacy Program. She was a patron of The Louisville Zoo, an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed sewing, gardening, and crossword puzzles. Carol was a Baptist by faith.

She is survived by one daughter, Dana Hammers and her husband, Joseph of New Haven; one son, Eddie Hammers and his wife, Melissa of Upton; one sister, Linda Gibson of Leitchfield; seven grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Josh, Matthew, Amy, Bryan, and Nathaniel Hammers; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Alma Young.

Cremation was chosen, and a private family burial will be held at a later date.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00p.m.-8:00p.m. CST (5:00p.m. - 9:00p.m. EST) on Monday (May 20, 2013) at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jefferson County Adult Education and Literacy Program, The Louisville Zoo, Jefferson County Public Library, or donate a book to your public library in Carol's name.
