Catherine Johnson Haynes, age 91 , of Leitchfield, Ky, departed this life Friday, (May 13, 2022) surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 9, 1930 in Kyrock, Ky, the daughter of the late E.W. Johnson and Lois Halthouser. She began her career as a seamstress over 60 years ago for Kane Manufacturing Co. Upon leaving Kane Manufacturing she ran an upholstery business from home,  and then returned to the workforce at Phar Shar designing jackets for Ralph Lauren. During this time, Leo Mudd created the Wuz and asked mother to make it a reality with her seamstress abilities. Then she moved on to her next career as a caregiver for the elderly until the last two years when she was confined to the bed herself.

She is survived by three children, Jerry of Round Rock, Tx, Janet Buster & Brenda Oller of Leitchfield, Ky; Five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters, Opal Skaggs of Leitchfield and Marcella Mitchell of Georgetown. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James "Gus" Haynes; a grandson Andy Buster; sisters Augusta Blair, Lorene Oller, Lucille Sherrill, Juanita Staggs; and one brother Damon Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, (May 16, 2022) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.
