Obituary

Charles Louis Powell, age 88, known affectionately as "C.L." to his family and friends, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (April 3, 2012) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease.

C.L. was born on May 15, 1923, in Millwood, Kentucky, the son of the late Noah and Vasta Anderson Powell. C.L. worked for Lee's Dairy, Ideal Milk Company, and Holland Milk Company, before his retirement. He then worked a short time at Leitchfield Deposit Bank. C.L. is a member of the local congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

During his retirement years, he remained physically active enjoying his garden, ski trips with his sons, vacations with his wife and family, and being devotedly engaged in his family's lives. He was always smiling, a good-natured man, who never met a stranger. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

C.L. is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 67 years, Verlene Edwards Powell of Leitchfield; three sons, Jim (Judy) of Maceo, KY, Bob (Victoria) of Leitchfield, and Ron Powell (Gwynn) of Bowling Green, KY; a daughter, Rita Rooker (Ken) of Martinsville, Indiana; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Ethel Lasley of Louisville, Tommie Embry of Leitchfield, Clara Pullen of Rineyville, and Mary Kisroe of Tucson, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Lee Powell and I.J. Powell both of Grayson County.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday (April 6, 2012) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. D' Agostino will be officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.
