Charles R. Hawkins, age 80, of Frankfort, KY, formerly of Caneyville, passed away Friday, (February 15, 2019) at Frankfort Rehab and Care in Frankfort, KY.

He was born on June 14, 1938 in Hart County, KY, the son of the late Buford L. and Rose Philpott Hawkins.

He was in the National Guard for 38 years, and then drove a school bus for 19 years for the Grayson County School system. He enjoyed driving his bus and interacting with all the students. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge #530. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Caneyville.

He is survived by his children, Carla Hawkins of Frankfort, and John Eric Hawkins of Louisville; grandchildren, Charles A. Hawkins, Mollie Hawkins and Shawn Hawkins; sister, Barbara Hardison of Florida; half-sister, Bettie Gail Pimental of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Helen Shain Hawkins.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. (CST) Tuesday, (February 19, 2019) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Elder Paul Trautner will be officiating. Burial will be in the Deweese Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.
