Chesley Richard Payton, age 82, of Horse Branch, KY, passed away Friday, (July 30, 2021) at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes in Leitchfield, KY.

He was born on August 23, 1938 in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Shelby and Valor Payton.

He was a farmer, and a retired line worker from Nestway in Beaver Dam, KY. He enjoyed raising cattle, hogs and growing tobacco, and loved Sunday dinners with family.

He is survived by his son, Jeff Payton of Horse Branch; three daughters, Rita Decker (Paul), Gail Fraim (Robbie), and Marsha Hayes (Sean) all of Caneyville; four grandchildren, Lorie Clark (Collin), Drago Fraim (Kim), Haley Haycraft (Kaleb) & Caleb Hayes; six great-grandchildren, Shelbi, Mattie, Beth, Austin, Lela and one on the way; and a sister, Hazel Geary of Yeaman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, JoNell Geary Payton; two brothers, Leland Payton and Joe Payton; and two sisters, Jean Lovely and Evelyn Crawford.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, (August 5, 2021) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in Layman Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of services.
