Dana Leann Payton, age 50, of Caneyville, passed away Sunday, (January 25, 2026) at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY.
She was born on January 2, 1976 in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of the late Emeral “Red” and Ethel McDorman Elmore.
Dana was a housewife and a homemaker who enjoyed art, cooking and watching criminal and mystery shows on television, especially CSI and Heartland. She adored spending time with her family and grandchildren, whom she loved so much. She married Bobby Payton on August 3, 2002, and together they made a happy home. Dana attended Southside Church in Caneyville.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Payton of Caneyville; daughters, Kassie Parks (DJ), and Hailey Miller (Chris); six grandchildren, Mark, Mary Jane, and Lorali Miller, Ganton Dennison, Emma, and Kolsen Brewer; siblings, Rosa Dockery (Alvin), Ava “Tucky” Fegan (Johnny), Rebecca “Becky” White, and Shawn Elmore (Holly); her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Payton; and two aunts. Several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jean Shaeffert and George Elmore, Jr.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, (February 2, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Steve Embrey will be officiating. Burial will be in the Frank-Embrey Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. on Monday until time of services.
