Darrell Wayne Layman, age 61, of Caneyville, KY, passed away Thursday, (September 24, 2026) at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

He was born on February 7, 1965, in Louisville, KY, the son of Susan Hall Layman and the late Danny Edward Layman.

Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting case knives, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who knew him simply as “Papaw.” Above all, he loved serving the Lord. He was saved at the age of 11 at Providence Baptist Church in Louisville and remained steadfast in his faith throughout his life. Darrell was a faithful member and moderator of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and was devoted to serving his church family. He was also a proud member of Short Creek Masonic Lodge #744.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Martha Layman of Caneyville; four children, Adam Christopher Layman of Caneyville, Sarah Beth Baggett (Jason) of Leitchfield; Mary Ann Layman (Fiancé, Isaac Summers) of Bowling Green, and James Kinser Jr. (Michelle) of Leitchfield; six grandchildren, Lealand, Logan, Nathan (Brittany), Andrew (Sydney), Taylor (Evan) and Kaysie (Logan); nine great-grandchildren; his mother, Susan Layman of Caneyville and two brothers, Scott (Wilma) and Chad ( Melissa) Layman both of Caneyville. Several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his father, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Joshua Layman.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (September 30, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. David Reynolds will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services. A masonic service will be held at the Dermitt Funeral Home on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Dermitt Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
