Obituary

Darwin Algot Larson, "Lars" age 97, of Leitchfield, KY, formally of Pinehurst, NC passed away Sunday, (December 29, 2013) at Kensington Manor in Elizabethtown, KY.

He was born on October 20, 1916 in Stanton, Iowa, the son of the late Algot and Edith Alveda Benson Larson.

He was an officer at Northern Propane Gas Company, which later was bought out by Enron. He was a member of the Shriners of North Carolina, a Kentucky Colonel, and founder of the Larson Foundation. He also was founder of the Grayson County Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. "Lars" lived his entire life doing countless caring acts, using his good fortune to help others, and volunteering his time and experience to numerous agencies and organizations. He was a WWII US Army veteran, a graduate of Iowa State University, and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Aberdeen, NC.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Thompson Larson, of Leitchfield; three daughters, Linda Larson Barko of Eden, NC, Mary Stitt of Rogers AR, and Susan Larson of Plymouth, MN; seven grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Winifred Larson, one sister, Marveline Peterson, and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be held in North Carolina, and will be announced at a later date.

Cremation was chosen, with burial in North Carolina.
