Rev. Denver Lee Matthews, age 80, of Shepherdsville, KY, passed away Wednesday, (September 13, 2023) at his residence in Shepherdsville.

He was born on June 22, 1943 in Breckinridge County, KY, the son of the late Henry and Sarah Gillon Matthews.

Rev. Matthews enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid UK basketball fan.  He married the love of his life, Delores Haycraft Matthews in 1964. He was a member and former pastor of Liberty Chapel General Baptist Church, former pastor of Shrewsbury, Lendon, and Okolona General Baptist Churches, and assistant pastor at Leitchfield First General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Matthews of Shepherdsville; children, Paula Probus (Bro. Tim) of Clarkson, Michelle Kittle (Ron) of Shepherdsville, and Bro. Brian Matthews of Shepherdsville; five grandchildren, Chrystal Logsdon (Nick), Dalton Probus, Bryce Kittle, Blake Kittle and Braden Kittle; three great-grandchildren, Rhett, Beau and Jake; two brothers, Henry Matthews (Nellie) of Brandenburg and Frank Merle Matthews (Sonja) of Corpus Christi, Texas;  and several nieces and nephews.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Baby Probus.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, (September 18, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Rev. Steve Prewitt will be officiating. Burial will be in the Anneta Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.
