Denzil Maurice Bullock, age 89, of Brownsville, KY passed away Monday, (June 8th, 2026) at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 5, 1937, in the Grassland community of Edmonson County, KY the son of the late Clarence Wilford and Mae Vonnie Coates Bullock.
In the winter of 1951, Bro. John Arthur Lindsey and Bro. Gordon Campbell held a revival at Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church. To all who knew him, they heard his experience countless times, how the Lord saved him, but he wanted to be sure. He went home after service and on his way to milk, he felt like his feet weren’t on the ground. He went back the next day to church and Bro. John Arthur said, “I feel like someone has something they need to tell,” and five minutes later repeated the statement. That was when Dad told what the Lord had done for him.
In 1956, he proudly graduated from Edmonson County High School as the Valedictorian of his class. He then married the love of his life, Reva Agnes Willis on September 7, 1957. He went on to work at Holley Carburetor in Bowling Green for an honorable 42 years, 6 months, and 2 days, where he took pride in his work and being able to provide for his family. From this union, to date they have ninety-nine offspring including their spouses.
When he started a family, he devoted his life to the Lord. He was called to preach and was ordained at Holly Springs in November of 1962. He pastored several churches and helped in many revivals.
One of his greatest gifts was his ability to talk with the Lord. He was a praying man. Local people could hear him praying on the pond bank when he was lifting someone up to the Lord. Over the years, when his heart was burdened for someone, he would pick up a rock on his way to his prayer place and place it on his altar. There are hundreds of rocks piled there today, a testament to his willingness to help others. As his children, we were witness to his burdens. If we were in the tobacco patch or out rabbit hunting and his heart was heavy, he would say, “We need to pray,” and wherever we were, we prayed. We never ate a meal without giving thanks. Naturally he was not rich by today’s standards, but to us he had more treasures than anyone. He saw all of his children, grandchildren and several great-grandchildren find the Lord.
He never spoke bad of anyone and was a Christian example to all who knew him. To us he was the greatest man we ever knew. Thank you Dad, Papaw and Husband, from all who were privileged to be part of your life. We will never forget the sacrifices you made for us and the ways of the Lord. We will carry you in our hearts, til’ we meet again.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Reva Willis Bullock; six children, Cindy Stanton (Kelvin), Robert Bullock (Robbin), Stephen Bullock (Kim), Sherry Riggs (Keith), Melinda Jordan (Kevin) and Jimmy Bullock (Sabrina); twenty-one grandchildren; forty-five great- grandchildren; and one great great-grandaughter; two sisters, Nelda Wheat and Carolyn Sanders. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, four sisters, one granddaughter, Jessica Bullock, one grandson, Nicholas Riggs, and one great- granddaughter, Chloe Logsdon.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, (June 12, 2026) at Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Edmonson County. Bro. Vernon White will be officiating. Burial will be in the Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services at the church.
