Obituary

Doris Faye McCoy, Skaggs, Barton, age 91, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 12, 2025.

She was born on August 10, 1934, in the Jack Thomas House in Leitchfield to Ralph McCoy and Ona Litsey McCoy.

She attended Clarkson Methodist Church for many of her younger years and has been a long-time member of Leitchfield United Methodist Church. She also taught Sunday school for many years.

As a teenager she started working for the Big 7, and then she went to work for H&R Block preparing taxes and teaching tax school before going into tax business for herself and retiring after about 50 years of service. She also was a long-time member of the Grayson County Homemakers Association. Her skills and talents were endless. She was good at everything she did from gardening, to knitting and embroidery; she made baskets, quilts, and refinished furniture. There was nothing that she couldn't do. She has achieved many things in her life but the greatest attribute was the love and devotion to God and to her friends and family. She is and was a very amazing woman. Her smile, strength, love, and devotion will always be cherished and never forgotten.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Ona McCoy, along with her sister, Patsy L. Small; her brother-in-law, Merwin Shirly Small; her brother, Eugene (Gene) Ralph McCoy; her sister-in-law Francis Hornback McCoy; her first husband, Robert (Bob) Skaggs; her second husband, Clark Barton; and her significant other, Ernie (Bud) Skaggs. She is also preceded in death by family pets she has never forgotten, Bobo and Buttons; along with many friends with whom she adored.

She is survived by her two nephews, Kevin Small and Eric Small, and a niece (by marriage) Amanda Small. She is also survived by several friends with whom she loved dearly like family; and also survived by her dog, BB that kept her company for many years, that she shared with her nephew, Kevin.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, (October 16, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Johnny Long will be officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. on Thursday until time of service.

We would also like to remember and give thanks to the Hospice Care Team who was incredibly wonderful in caring for her.
