Obituary

Dorothy Carter, age 94, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (January 7, 2019) at Signature Healthcare in Elizabethtown, KY.

She was born on July 23, 1924 in McDaniels, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Pleasant and Mary Ann Russell Peoples.

She was an inventory clerk at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, California for 26 years. She had once worked as a welder in the ship-yards at Alameda, California, and had worked on a peanut and cotton farm in Oklahoma. Dorothy enjoyed traveling, cooking and gambling on the boats and in the casinos. She was a homemaker and a vacationer. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her children, Sandra Hayse and Ron Carter both of Leitchfield; grandchildren, Chaske and Yarrow Blackbear, Felicia Tate, Shamikia and Alfonso Taylor; and her niece and nephew, Betty Rich and Marty Ingram.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Alton, Orville, May, Gladys, Bertha, Elmer and Eugene.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, (January 14, 2019) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Wayne Clemons will be officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery in Bee Spring, KY.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.
