Dorothy Spalding Popplewell, age 85, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (May 27, 2007) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.

She was born on April 7, 1922 in Raywick, KY, the daughter of James Mort and Nell Cooper Spalding. She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, she was a veteran of WWII where she started her nursing career, she also was a R.N. at the St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville, she received her B.S. degree from the Spalding University, she was in public health at various hospitals around the country.

She is survived by one son, Michael S. Popplewell and his wife, (Dianne) of Shepherdsville, KY, one daughter, Joanne P. Deweese and her husband, (Robert L.) of Leitchfield, KY, one brother, James H. Spalding of Raywick, KY, one sister, Eleanor S. Sosienski of Louisville, KY, Ten grandchildren and Six great grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joel T. Popplewell, two sons, James Oliver and David Lee Popplewell, one brother, Gabriel C. Spalding.

Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (May 30, 2007) at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leitchfield (under the direction of the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield). Father Randy Howard will be officiating. The body of Mrs. Popplewell will be cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date at the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (May 29, 2007). A prayer service will be held Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
