Obituary

Edgar Thomas Carter passed away Friday, November 27, 2015 at his home in Georgetown, KY after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Edgar was born October 23, 1930 to the Rev. Thomas Carter and Bessie Frank Carter of Duff. He attended the one-room school at Duff, where he met Virginia Kiper. They were married in 1957 and had two daughters, Carolyn Carter (Herb Petitjean) of Versailles and Brenda (Jim) Nichols of Georgetown.

Edgar was a mechanic by vocation and by avocation. He loved to work on machinery and fix, design and build things. He frequently came home to find broken machinery and calls from neighbors who knew that he would help them. He taught his daughters how to live by example, not words. He taught them some mechanical skills along the way as well.

Edgar was a member of Stones View United Methodist Church; church and church community were central to his life. When he could physically no longer get out of bed he still knew when it was Sunday and felt he should be in church. He also led the Pilgrim Cemetery Association for several years.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Edgar is survived by two sisters, Gladys Probus of Louisville and Louise Purcell of Caneyville, and one brother, Herman Carter of Brandenburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Eleanor Cockrill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass or to the Pilgrim Cemetery Memorial Fund.

After the burial everyone is invited to a reception in the basement of Stones View United Methodist Church.
