Edith Lavern Downs, age 91, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017) at Springview Health and Rehab in Leitchfield.

She was born on May 18, 1926, in Grayson County, the daughter of the late Ernest and Essie Mingus Langley.

She was a housewife, who enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith was baptized in the Catholic faith.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda McCoy (Wayne) of Vine Grove, June Cockrel (Jackson) of Caneyville; one son, Phil Downs (Vickie) of Leitchfield; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Downs; two grandsons, Troy Bratcher, and Shannon Cockrel; and two brothers, Willie Earl Langley and Audrey Langley.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, (July 21, 2017) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Dr. Nathan Lowe and Rev. Tony Bickett will be officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. on Friday until time of services.
