Edward Dean Kirby, age 80, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (March 13, 2015) at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield, KY.

He was born on November 27, 1934 in Bowling Green, KY, the son of the late Houston and Mabel McCormack Kirby.

He was a 1952 graduate of Bowling Green High School, an alumnus of Western Kentucky University and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an accountant until his retirement, at which time he started working as a greeter at Wal-Mart, where he worked for 30 years. He was an avid golfer. A soldier in the army of Jesus Christ, he was a member of the Bethel Fellowship, though he had recently started attending the Church of Joy.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Steff Kirby; 2 sons, Matthew Kirby (Donnie), of Glasgow, KY, Michael Kirby (Andrea) of Halfway, KY; a daughter, Ashley Hayes (Ben) of Clarksville, TN; an adopted daughter Lori Patterson (David) of Falls of Rough, KY; 7 grandchildren, Stacy Kupchella (Jason), Tara Branham, Magon Anderson (Nick), Kristin Drago (Josh), Dillon Kirby, Andrew Hayes, and Garrett Kirby; 6 great grandchildren, Griffin and Julia Kupchella, Jaxson, Isabella and Isaac Drago, and Sierra Anderson; and a sister, Patty Boggs (Jerry) of Louisville, KY. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Garner.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, (March 18, 2015) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Nathan Lowe will be officiating. Burial will be in Leitchfield Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
