Elwood "Pap" Hayes, age 58, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (May 27, 2007) at his residence.

He was born on August 4, 1948, in Grayson Co., KY, the son of Stoy and Bessie Lindsey Hayes. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, a farmer, a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Kentucky Mens Barrel Racing Association.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ruth Hayes, his daughter, Jenni Pendergest (Tommy) of Leitchfield, his son, Steve Hayes (Tammy) of Leitchfield, four grandchildren, Katie and Kourtnee Hayes and Shelbi and Paul Hunter "Bub" Pendergest, his father, Stoy Hayes of Leitchfield, his brother, Eugene Hayes of Leitchfield, two sisters, Ailene Street and Marcella Carrington both of Leitchfield. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Hayes, a brother, Edgar Hayes and a nephew, Pete Hayes.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday (May 30, 2007) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Billy Mason will be officiating. Burial will be at the Hayes Family Farm.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
