Elzie Ray Bird, age 84, of Clarkson, KY passed away Saturday, (June 27, 2026).
He was born on July 14, 1941, in Millwood, KY, the son of the late Herman and Ann Bird.
He retired from General Electric after working 27 faithful years. A dedicated member of the Local 761, he took great pride in supporting and serving alongside his fellow union workers. He was also a longtime member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge # 236.
A proud United States Army veteran, he served with E Company, 10th Engineer Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division. He was a Baptist by faith and lived his life guided by kindness, humility and a deep love for others.
Known for his quick wit and ability to make people laugh, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed raising cattle, fishing, woodworking and listening to county music. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he was a good neighbor and a dependable friend to many.
He is survived by his brother, Gordon Bird of Leitchfield; niece, Cathy Ollom (Richard) of Clarkson, who cared for him; nephew, William Bird (Becky) of Shepherdsville; and one adopted daughter, Kelli S. Bird Louisville. Several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Bird and a sister, Mattie J. Bird.
In keeping with his wishes, a masonic graveside service will be held at a later date.
