Ernest Ray Harris, age 77, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (June 21, 2025) in Leitchfield.

He was born on April 1, 1948 in Ohio County, KY, the son of the late Raymond and Ernestine Shain Harris.

He was a retired vocational teacher who worked at the Breckinridge County school system and at the Grayson County school system. He was instrumental in building the vocational building in Leitchfield at Grayson County High School. He taught from 1974 until 2003. Ernie enjoyed farming, spending time with his grandchildren and attending church. He was a member of the Shrewsbury Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Cooper Harris, whom he married on April 9, 1982. Also surviving are his son and wife, Patrick and Joy Harris, along with their children, Jayden and Talia Harris. He leaves behind a sister, Brenda Lacefield and a brother, James Harris (Lou), along with a nephew, Kyle Harris.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, (June 24, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Glen Seaton will be officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.
