Flora Mae Smith, age 89, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Thursday January 6, 2011 at her home.

Flora Mae was born on Jan 13th, 1921, the 4th child of twelve, 7 boys and 5 girls born to Lester and Rollie (Carter) Decker. Two sisters survive her, Myrtle Fields and Mary Lois Brown.

She married O'Neil Smith on Oct 24th, 1938 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, O'Neil was the son of Warren and Pinkey (Sarver) Smith, he had one son Paul from his 1st marriage who was raised by the Smith family. O'Neil and Flora Mae had two sons, Warren Scott born Dec 1st, 1940 in Englewood, California and Larry O'Neil born Aug 4th, 1942 in Nashville Tennessee. She had 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Flora Mae was baptized into Christ in 1947 by Brother B.B. Baxter in Nashville, Tennessee at the Trinity Lane Church of Christ. She has been a member of the Yeaman Church of Christ since 1949 and she also regularly attended the Clinton Street Church of Christ.

O'Neil and Flora Mae lived in Louisville after they married and moved to Whiting, Indiana in the fall of 1938. In March of 1939 they moved to California and lived there until 1941 when they moved to Nashville. They moved back to Grayson County in 1949 where they owned and operated many different businesses within the Leitchfield community throughout their lives. O'Neil preceded her in death on July 26th, 1986.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (January 9, 2011) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Mark Claypool will be officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services.
