Obituary

Floyd Childress, age 77, of Big Clifty, KY, was called home to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on July 21, 2026.

He was born on March 23, 1949 in Grayson County, the son of the late Thoms Bryant Childress and Luella Brooks Childress.

He was a member of Claggett United Baptist Church where he was saved in a revival at the age of 10. Floyd proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and also loved what the Flag stood for. He also enjoyed gathering with friends and family to sing and play Bluegrass music. He was an old-fashioned man at heart, steadfast in his beliefs, while trying to instill in others the true treasures of life, which were loving the Lord, family, and friends.

He was married to his help mate, Diana Childress for 47 years who was his rock, and together they enjoyed many blessings, while representing Christ in their covenant of marriage. They stood together through sickness and in health and carried out their vows until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Childress; two daughters, Penny Kennison (Alvey), and Sherry Petty (Tony); two grandchildren, Jacob Kennison and Garrett Petty; one sister, Mary Langdon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lonnie, Pat, and Bryant Jr; four sisters, Anna, Maxine, Wanda, and Betty.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, (July 28, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Hank Gibson will be officiating. Burial will be in the Claggett Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until time of services.

The family would also like to thank Hosparus, and Floyd’s caregivers; Bonnie, Lori, and Ashley.
