George Hobson Butler, age 73, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Sunday, (May 22, 2016) at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.
He was born on February 26, 1943 in Breckinridge County, KY, the son of the late George S. and Lena Robinson Butler.
He was the owner of Sears for 18 years, George's Gun and Pawn Shop & Northside Discount, a former department manager at Wal-Mart and was recently employed at U.D. Contracting. He was an Army Veteran, a member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge # 236 F&AM, the Grayson County Fish and Wildlife Club, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 81, and a former member of the Leitchfield Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family & friends. He was of Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Bell Butler; his daughter Twyla Blaylock (David) and his loving granddaughter Maddy Blaylock whom he adored; three brothers, Justis Butler (Pat), Larry Butler (Helen), Darrell Butler (Irene); six sisters, Ramona Reddish (Thomas), Winnie Combs (Bruce), Betty Kiper, Jacyln Dupin, Judy Bullock (Eddie) and Wilma Bates (Larry).
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Jason Butler and Mark Kiper, and three brother-in-laws, Robert Stinnett, Stanley Dupin and Hubert Kiper.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (May 25, 2016) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Wayne Clemons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Holly Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Dermitt Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
