Gladys Mae Boaz, "Cookie", age 81, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (January 31, 2023) at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes in Leitchfield, KY.
She was born on January 18, 1942 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of the late JH and Gladys Hatfield Walls.
She was a homemaker and had been a bus driver for Miller Transportation. She enjoyed watching TV, collecting owls, doing Seek and Find word searches and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith.
She is survived by her children, James A. Boaz (Pat), Cheri Rodgers (Steve), Michael Boaz (Nicole), James "Butch" Boaz; her special "children" whom she treated as family, Valerie and Lisa McCombs, Don Mills and Bobby Moser; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Fred Walls, and Ernest Walls, both of Shepherdsville; sisters, Patricia Clay of Mississippi, Marilyn Sue Smith of Mt. Washington, Phyllis Gail Walls of Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Donald Lee Boaz, her daughter, Lisa Boaz Hollon and her grandson, Nathan Rodgers.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, (February 4, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Pastor Bridget Hutchinson will be officiating. Burial, to be reunited with her husband, Donald Boaz, will be in the KY Veterans Cemetery Central, on Tuesday February 21, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. EST, 11:30 a.m. CST.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. on Saturday until time of services.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Dermitt Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
