Harlin Leon Hayes, age 70, of Clarkson, KY, passed away Friday, (November 03, 2023) at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.

He was born on March 01, 1953 in Louisville, KY, the son of Harlin Hayes and the late Betty Jo White Hayes.

Leon was a farmer and held many titles in his life. In high school he was the chapter president of the FFA, and carried on to be the co-owner of Hayes Farms & Registered Black Angus Cattle as well as a member of the Grayson County Cattleman's Association, the Grayson County Saddle Club, the American Angus Association & American Quarter Horse Association. He was a member and former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Little Clifty United Methodist Church off Spurrier Rd.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sharon Lewis Hayes of Clarkson; a daughter, Dedra Hayes Whittington of Leitchfield; three sons, Chadwick "Chad" Lewis Hayes (Marisa) of Bardstown, KY, Jason Leon Hayes (Laura Beth) of Stephensburg, KY & Ryan Lee Hayes (Suzie) of Louisville; 11 grandchildren, Gabe, Morgan, Madison, Camryn, Calleigh, Alexis, Jaxson, Taylor, Harlin Tyler, Asher & Julian; four sisters, Bonita Miller (Kenny) of Clarkson, Vicki Basham of Elizabethtown, KY, Valeria Hayes of Big Clifty & Melinda O'Donnell (Patrick) of Shepherdville; his father, Harlin Hayes of Big Clifty and his beloved mini Australian Shepherd, Louie. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Hayes; a nephew, Jacob Skaggs; and a brother-in-law Dale Basham.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, (November 12, 2023) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Johnny Long and Bro Tommy Pendergest will be officiating. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. Sunday until time of services.
