James "Jim" Arthur Irving, age 83, passed away Saturday, (August 03, 2024) at his son's home in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born on May 19, 1941 in Oakland, CA, the son of the late Gerald and Ruth Peters Irving.
He grew up in Hayward and attended Hayward High School. He received his bachelor's degree in Speech and Drama from Cal State East Bay and earned a master's degree in Education and Counselling from USC. He entered the Army during the Vietnam War, attending Infantry Officer's School, Adjutant General Advanced Services, and served as Foreman in General Staff College. His highest military awards were the AR Medal and Bronze Star. He retired from the US Army in 1989, and moved to Kentucky in 1990 where he bought a farm, raising cattle and tobacco. He later owned and operated a Custom Deer Processing and Convenience Store. In his free time, Jim liked to play pool, grow a garden (the contents of which he happily gave away) read and watch black and white movies on TV.
He is survived by his son, Jeff Irving (Kris); and granddaughters Danielle and Megan.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn "Cris" Irving and a brother, Bob Irving.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Monday, (August 12, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the Plum Springs Cemetery in Bowling Green, KY.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. Monday until time of services.
