Obituary

James George Tempfer, "Chuck", age 75, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Friday, (February 20, 2015) in Louisville, KY.

He was born on January 18, 1940 in Laramie, Wyoming, the son of the late George and Billie McLain Tempfer.

He was an employee of the KY State Parks System for 22 years. He retired as manager of Rough River State Park, after 12 years of service. He grew up in Memphis, where he later became a police officer. "Chuck" was very athletic and enjoyed all sports. He played college football at the University of Mississippi, "Ole Miss", and played professional football for the Houston Oilers. He once played backyard football and rode horses with Elvis Presley. He lived an exciting and full life. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Joyce Tempfer of Leitchfield; two daughters, Brandy Tempfer Windell and husband, Bryan, of IN, and Melissa VanMeter and husband, Larry, of Clarkson; two sons, Tracey Joyce and wife, Cindy, of Cadiz, KY, and Master Sargent Daniel Grapes of Cecilia, KY; and four grandchildren, Danielle, Matthew, Michala, and Haely..

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Billie Tempfer.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (February 28, 2015) at the Dermitt Funeral Home. Bro. John Geary will be officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday (February 27, 2015) and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
