James E. Gary, age 75, of Leitchfield, passed away Tuesday, (February 3, 2026) at his home with his wife by his side.
He was born on July 22, 1950 in Butler County, KY, the only child of the late Ezra and Eulma Taylor Gary.
James was a factory worker at Vermont America from 1976 until its closure in early 2000’s. His career continued at Bel Cheese until his retirement after 15 plus years of service. In addition to his factory work, he also ran and maintained an active farm his entire life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting antiques, woodworking and playing cards with family and friends. These were all passions he shared with the ones he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Florence Hack Gary; three daughters, Suzanne Sweet (Johnnie), Wendy Pierce (James), and Angela Stegenga (Chad); ten grandchildren, Dalton (Anissa), Taylor, Emma, Lillie, Eli, Shayna (Branden), Wyatt, Nicholas, Jackson and Jason; two great-grandchildren, Maisie and Ezra; multiple sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews also survive. Although James was an only child, he had multiple friends he considered brothers, which also survive.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by one nephew and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, (February 11, 2026) at the Chapel Union Missionary Baptist Church located in Butler County. Bro. Randall Deweese will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and at Chapel Union Missionary Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.
