James Robert Hazelwood, age 69, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (February 3, 2024) in Louisville, KY.
He was born on April 5, 1954 in Valley Station, KY, the son of the late Kenneth and Mattie Langley Hazelwood.
He was employed as a factory worker in Louisville, worked at a bookstore, was once a taxi driver, a bouncer at Louisville Gardens, and worked security at the state fairgrounds. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns on television and playing BINGO. He always loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He married his late wife, Rebecca Carroll Hazelwood on September 25, 1979. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is survived by his children, James R. Hazelwood, Jason Hazelwood, and Tasha Hazelwood all of Leitchfield, and Matthew Hazelwood (Amy) of Missouri; one brother, Mark Hazelwood (Renee); six grandchildren, William, Alandreia, Tyler, Steve, Hayden, and Damian; two great-grandchildren, Naudalynn and Jackson; several nieces and nephews, including Cassandra "Jennie" Johnson, who was more like a daughter; and brother-in-law, Ted Renfrow.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Carroll Hazelwood, three brothers, Kenny, Allen, and Larry; and two sisters, Brenda and Louise.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, (February 16, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Father Steve Hohman will be officiating. Burial will be in the Summit Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. on Friday (February 16, 2024) until time of service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Dermitt Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
