James Robert Newton, age 69, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Tuesday, (May 20, 2008) at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
He was born on August 7, 1938 in Grayson County KY, the son of Elmer and Velma Decker Newton. He was a deacon of New Harmony United Baptist Church, a retired construction worker and was the former co-owner of Doris' Cozy Kitchen where he loved trading knifes with his customers.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Sanders) Newton, one son, Darrell Newton of Leitchfield, one daughter, Judy Wampole of Racine, Wisconsin, his mother, Velma (Decker) Newton, one brother, Charles Newton of Leitchfield, two sisters, Rita Brant of Leitchfield and Hazel Redmond of Caneyville, KY, three grandchildren Robby Newton, Keith Tarrence, and Chris Aymond and three great grandchildren, Faith Tarrence, Dustin Newton, and Hunter Aymond. He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, Elmer Thomas Newton, and one sister Pearl Newton.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday (May 22, 2008) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bros. Charles Bell and Randy Meredith will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sanders Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
