James Robert Tomes, age 90, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (June 15, 2026) at his residence.

He was born on December 4, 1935, in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Rev. Gillard and Effie Farris Tomes.

He retired from Universal Packaging, where he worked as a machine operator for many years. Following his retirement, he continued serving others as a greeter and member of the support staff at Watson and Hunt Funeral Home. In his spare time, he enjoyed antiquing, traveling, playing Bingo and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Lobo (Humberto), Pamela Rizzo (Robert) and Tabatha Thompson (Stephen); seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Bobby, Anthony, TJ, Samantha, Travis, Shonn; ten great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Nora Tomes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three children, James Robert Tomes Jr., Barbara Lee Tomes and Edward Ray Tomes; three brothers, Eddie, Raymond, Everett and three sisters, Delphine, Goldie, and Marie.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. CST Thursday, (June 18, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Rev. Tommy Valentine will be officiating. Burial will be in the Little Flock Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. CST on Thursday until time of services.
