Edwards

James C. "JC" Edwards, age 90, of Midway, KY, passed away on Friday, (April 12, 2019) at The Home Place in Midway, KY.
He was born on February 20, 1929 in Falls of Rough, KY, the son of the late Lovel and Ila Mahurin Edwards.
A graduate of Caneyville High School, he worked for the Green Store at Falls of Rough before pursuing a career in law enforcement. After a year as a state police officer, J.C. joined the Air Force as a police officer, then in 1952 went into business on his own in Muldraugh, Ky. In 1966 he went into civil service for the Army at Fort Knox. By 1971 he was working as a police officer for the U.S. Mint, Department of the Treasury, with the gold vault at Fort Knox as home base. With that position came several assignments with the San Francisco and Denver Mints. Through the years, he worked his way up the ranks, receiving numerous awards, letters of commendation and appreciation as a civilian employee of the Department of the Army, twice receiving "Outstanding Performance" awards as well as letters of appreciation from his chief officer at the Gold Vault. From 1983 until his retirement, J.C. was the police shift commander at the Gold Vault, even receiving a citation by President Bush. In addition to a law enforcement officer, J.C. was a Protestant, an avid UK Basketball fan, and a 50+ year member of Barker Masonic Lodge # 129 who enjoyed fishing, gardening, listening to country music and working on clocks and lawn mowers.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Lou Edwards of Midway, KY; one daughter Lisa Grim (Larry) of Frankfort, KY; first cousins Earl Stone of Leitchfield and Napolee Mahurin Patterson of Troy, Alabama and several other close cousins.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hayward Edwards, and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. CST Monday, (April 15, 2019) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Steve Mahurin will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mahurin Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. CST Monday until time of services.
