John Sam Saltsman, age 80, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday morning, (April 25, 2015) at his residence.
He was born on April 22, 1935 in Grayson County, KY, the son of the late Frank and Dossie Mercer Saltsman.
He was a farmer and a construction worker, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and sight-seeing. He was a deacon of the New Hope General Baptist Church.
He is survived by a son, Joey Saltsman (Danielle) and a daughter, Rita Hayes (Wayne), both of Leitchfield; five grandchildren, Faith and Seth Hayes, Katelyn, Brittney and Tyler Saltsman; five brothers, Willie Saltsman (Coraine), Jimmy Saltsman (Carrie), Wayne Saltsman (Angel), Tommy Saltsman (Rita) and Stanley Saltsman (Amber); six sisters, Dianne Stevenson (Roger), Lorraine Lawson, Phyllis Horstman (Joe), Nina Bennett, Arlene Hayse (Billy), and Carlene Webb (Danny). Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Saltsman, a stepmother, Mabel Decker Saltsman, a sister Mildred Saltsman, and four brothers, Charlie, Carlos, Glen and James Saltsman.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, (April 27, 2015) at the New Hope General Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Bro. Joe Brooks will be officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Sadler Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
