Joyce Lillian Porter, born March 3, 1931, of Falls of Rough KY, passed away December 12 at River's Edge Nursing Home in Prospect KY after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Joyce was the daughter of Charlie M. Porter and Verna M. Porter of Falls of Rough KY. She lived In Grayson County most of her life and retired from Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services 15 years ago. Joyce lived in the Chicago area for about 20 years and received her BS from University of Illinois at Chicago. She returned to live the remainder of her life in Short Creek KY.

Joyce was an active member of many organizations, and loved nature and the outdoors. She belonged to Kentucky Ornithological Society and Kentucky Native Plant Society where she held many offices. Joyce was President of Kentucky's Audubon Society for three years and was a member for many more. She was also an avid rock collector.

Joyce is survived by one sister Mary Katherine Harrel; two daughters, Deborah(Rob) Peck, Patricia Rush; one niece Rebecca(Lowell) Foreman; and one nephew Steve Litsey; 4 grandchildren, Jason Van Meter, Regina Lafferty, Matthew Surface, Cailey Surface; one great grandchild Dylan Lafferty. Joyce's son Vincent Rush III and nephew Kevin Litsey, preceded her in death.

Visitation is Saturday (December 17, 2016) from 6 to 8pm (CST) at Dermitt Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Leitchfield KY. Funeral is Sunday December 18, 2016 at 1pm, with visitation from noon until time of service. Burial at Porter Cemetery, Church of Christ, Yeaman KY.
