Leonard Ray Whobrey, age 93, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, (February 09, 2024) with his two daughters by his side.
He was born on September 12, 1930 in Sadler, KY, the son of the late Dennie Whobrey and Sally Langdon Whobrey.
Leonard was a member of the New Harmony United Baptist Church. He was a hard working farmer in the South community for 54 years until he retired and moved to Leitchfield in 2012. He loved to share farming stories and loved to visit and talk with family, friends, and anyone he would meet.
Leonard is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Carroll (Sonny) and Pam Whobrey, both of Leitchfield; two grandchildren, Angela Carroll Scott (Dax) of Chicago and Michael Carroll of Louisville; four great-granddaughters, Addy, Maddie, Lizzie and Emmy of Chicago; one sister, Betty Jamison of Louisville; and a special friend, Bonnie Grubs, of Clarkson.
Other than his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children, Virginia Stewart Whobrey, who passed away in 1971. He later married Dorlis Mattingly Whobrey who also preceded him in death; a son, Martin "Marty" Whobrey and two sisters, Alma Burden and Lillian Smiley.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, (February 15, 2024) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Rev. Katie McKown will be officiating. Burial will be in the South Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of services.
