Letitia Smith, age 86, of Caneyville, KY, passed away Sunday, (September 19, 2021) at Hardinsburg Nursing and Rehab.
She was born on June 16, 1935 in Clarendon, Jamaica, the daughter of the late Styriel and Reness Tulloch.
She was an excellent nanny in Jamaica. After moving to the United States, she continued to provide exceptional care for children until going back to school. Education was extremely important to her. After obtaining her credentials, she became a nurse at Rosewood State Hospital where she cared for individuals with special needs for many years. She loved her job. After retiring from Rosewood State Hospital, she continues to care for children.
Letitia accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Bible Fellowship Church in Baltimore, Maryland. One of hear favorite scripture was Psalm 23. She faithfully attended church until her health prevented her from doing so.
On August 27, 1961, Letitia married her love Earl Melbourne Smith ( Eric ). She married into a big loving family. Her bonus brothers and sisters are Dorrington Smith, Valerie Richards, Fitzroy Smith, Hazel Smith-Palmer, Hyacinth Keane, Vivienne Malcolm, Patricia Smith and Dennis Smith. Their love and support meant the world to her.
Letitia was blessed with a big family of her own. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Eric Smith; daughter Rosemarie Smith; daughter Maxine Chatman & son-in-law Chester L. Chatman; 5 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother Dudley Tulloch and sister-in-law Kathleen Tulloch; brother Thomas Tulloch & sister-in-law Edith Tulloch, sister Mavis Brown; sister Annieta Tulloch, sister Mary Brown and brother-in-law Alpheus Brown; sister-in-law Pauline Tulloch, and brother-in-law Jasper Williams; sister-in-law Ms. Rob Tulloch; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. She will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Pearl; parents Styriel and Reness Tulloch; brothers Sylvester Tulloch & David Tulloch; sisters Iralee Williams & Deloris Smith; and brother-in-law John Brown.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday (September 26, 2021) and will then move to Baltimore, Maryland for funeral services at a later date.
