Lonnie Edwin McKinney Sr., age 81, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (July 10, 2010) in Louisville, KY.
He was born on July 28, 1928 in Eubank, KY, the son of the late Lawrence and Susie Turner McKinney. He was a retired service tech for Warren Rural Electric, 20 year bus driver for Continental Trailways, former Leitchfield council member and was the Mayor of Leitchfield from 1976 to 1981, a member of the Leitchfield Lions Club, the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge, a Kentucky Colonel and was a member and deacon of the Leitchfield First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene Francis McKinney, his children, Lonnie Edwin McKinney Jr. (Bettye Jean), Diana Lynn Pawley (Bill), Ricky Lee McKinney (Kay), Steven Douglas McKinney (Mary Ann), Tami Suzanne Newton (Lawrence), Marie Jeanette Shartzer (Terry), Timothy "Joe" Allen McKinney (Vickie) and Anne Francis Akridge (Mike), eighteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and nine brothers and sisters. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jonathan McKinney and one great grandson, Alexander Whobrey.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday (July 12, 2010) at the First Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Dr. David Martin will be officiating with Dr. Gerald Adamson, Bros George Smith and Jerry Dunaway, Jr assisting. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery. Masonic services will be Sunday Night at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday.
