Gogama, Ontario, Canada – Maurice Randall Cravens, of Gogama, Canada, formerly of Leitchfield, Kentucky, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at his home.
Maurice was born March 8, 1947, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of John Lee Cravens and Mary Agnes Kiper Cravens who now reside in Lenoir City, TN.
Maurice served as a surgical nurse in the Army during the Vietnam War and later became a nurse anesthetist. He worked at Baptist Hospital in Paducah and the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield for many years and had many friends there.
Maurice retired to own and operate a fishing and hunting lodge in Canada. He loved the wilderness and nature and fishing in the lakes of Canada.
Maurice married Phyllis Perry in Springfield, IL. and they had three children, Angela, Randy and Cynthia. They were later divorced. He married Joanna Sharp in Leitchfield, KY, which whom he had one stepson, Christian.
In addition to his parents and his wife and stepson, he is survived by his son, Randy (Mansfield, OH); Daughters, Angela Drysdale (Clay, children Evan and Erin, of Nicholasville, KY) and Cynthia (LeHigh Acres, FL); a brother, Curtis, and 3 sisters,
Wanda Snedeker, Joyce Arnold and Rita Levi; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family and friends.
Cremation rites were accorded and his ashes will be scattered over a beloved fishing lake in Canada.
There will be a memorial/remembrance at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield from 1 to 3 PM Saturday, November 8, 2008,with a graveside service to follow at the Claggett Cemetery, led by Pastor Lee Schoerlocke.
