Michael “Mickey” Daniel VanMeter, age 67, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Wednesday, (September 30, 2026) at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Mickey was born on December 28, 1958, the son of Betty Jo Akers VanMeter and the late Dudley VanMeter.

Mickey was a hard worker. He spent 35 plus years as a self-employed painter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his favorite movies, telling past stories, listening to music, singing and playing his guitar. Most of all he loved spending time with his family that he loved dearly.

Mickey is survived by his wife Ora VanMeter, three sons Jeremy (Karen), Aaron (Christina), and Colton (Talana); two bonus daughters, Mandy Belzer (Scott) and Aleisha Jaggers;11 grandchildren/bonus grandchildren, Jeren, Sutten, Ledger, Lennon, Teagan, Maylee, Cohen, Charlie, Dani, Anna and Lukas; his mother Betty Jo VanMeter; four brothers, Jimmy, Ricky (Rita), Chippy (Tammy), Josh (Alexis); two sisters, Tammy Jo VanMeter and Robin Grant; two brother-in-laws, Nick Bradley and Nathan Ramsey. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his father, Mickey is preceded in death by his late wife, Sharon VanMeter.

Mickey was a devoted husband, dad, paps, brother, son and friend. He was deeply loved and cherished by many.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. CST Thursday, (October 8, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Burial will be in the McGrew Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. CST to 8:00 p.m. CST on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. CST Thursday until time of services.
