Obituary

Mildred E. Pence Edwards, age 80, of Big Clifty, KY, passed away Sunday, (April 26, 2026) at her home.

She was born on August 11, 1945, in Big Clifty, KY, the daughter of the late Gilbert and Edna Rainey Pence.

She was a retired seamstress and supervisor working for Elizabethtown Sports Wear, with her employment beginning in 1984. Mildred enjoyed sewing, reading, growing her beautiful flowers, and being a home maker. She loved children and would do child care when needed. She was a very active lady and was always busy with the things in her life she loved. She married the love of her life, Richard “Duke” Edwards on October 25, 1963. Their life-long relationship started in fifth grade and continued with love and respect until her death, and even beyond. She was a member of College View Church of Christ in Elizabethtown since the inception of the church in 1980.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard “Duke” Edwards of Big Clifty; her children, Alan Edwards (Judy) of Leitchfield, Deana Paden (Eddie) of Big Clifty, and Bryan Edwards (Marie) of Lawrenceburg; her brother, Norman Pence (Juanita) of Taylorsville; her sisters, Judy Marchbanks (Jesse) of Pittsboro, IN, and Kathy Crawford (Bill) of Elizabethtown; 8 grandchildren, Nathan (Carolyn) Paden, Nicholas (Katie) Paden, Kara (Ben) Metzger, Kaitlyn (David) Lancaster, Ruth (Logan) Morgan, Annie (Jacob) Black, Luke (Kayla) Edwards, and Levi (Baylee Edwards; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and cousins; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Raymond Edwards, Gary Edwards (Ella), Carolyn (Bobby) Hatfield, and Kitty Edwards.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Charles (Totsie) Edwards, and Gene Edwards, and her sister-in-law, Norma Dean Ploude.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. CST on Friday, (May 1, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Eddie Paden will be officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery in Big Clifty.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.
