Obituary
Nellie Marie Whitaker, age 91, of Shrewsbury, KY, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at Kensington Manor in Elizabethtown.
She was born on August 20, 1924, in Millerstown, KY, the daughter of the late Roy and Bessie Skaggs Layman.
She was a home-maker, who enjoyed playing piano at her church and visiting with family and friends. She married the love of her life, Herman Whitaker on December 24, 1955. She was a member of the Shrewsbury General Baptist Church since 1957.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita J. Montgomery and husband, David, of Clarkson; two grandchildren, Scott D. Mudd of Leitchfield, and Bethany J. Mudd of Elizabethtown; three great-grandchildren, Gavin S. Mudd, Hayden C. Mudd, and Weston T. Frank; and her sister, Iva Powell, of Leitchfield.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Whitaker, brother, Lewis Layman, and sister, Louise Schildknecht.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. William Dotson and Bro. Joe Brooks will be officiating. Burial will be in the Tom Cook Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, until time of services.
